Learning from live performance video.

This is a live performance of the band Incubus performing their song 'Drive'.    In addition to being fun, viewing live performance is an essential learning tool.   Youtube.com is a place to see and review live video.   Studying live performances is one of the best ways to see guitar players work their craft and a good video is one of the best ways to study each player's technique.  Here we see a great example of a quiet crowd, good audio, and a series of camera angles that allow us to study Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger's playing.  Both right hand and left hand can be seen and his fingering choices for the not-for-beginner jazzy chords that accompany singer Brandon Boyd are easily visible.  We will learn more about how to choose useful study video and how to make the most of our Youtube experience in lesson.  There are a few other types of video that can be helpful to us that I will cover later.  In the meantime enjoy this great band and classic song and definitely check out more of their music.  I recommend subscribing to their Vevo (youtube channel) as well.

Here is a great close up view of The Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante playing an off the cuff version of their huge (and often requested by students and audience members) hit 'Under the Bridge' with singer Anthony Kiedis.  It's not often you get to see and hear a player this close up and casual.  There are some great looks at his left hand as he plays this song.  Note the "wrap around" versions of the bar chords and the licks and fills this method accommodates.   John is technically very accurate and musically solid and even on this slightly out of tune acoustic guitar his timing and taste are evident.
