Heart of Gold, Neil Young and Johnny Cash.

Neil Young's classic Heart of Gold is a beloved staple of classic rock radio, folk rock cover lists, open mics, and guitar lessons.  The tempo is not fast and the chords involved are among the first few most guitar players learn: Em, D, C, and G.  There is an Em7 in the intro that can be ignored at first but you will probably want to learn it when you notice the Em doesn't quite have all the notes you hear in the intro.  First here is Neil's studio version:

Here is a newer version by Johnny Cash.  The key is different but the chord shapes are the same, accomplished with a capo placed on the third fret.




Get with me for the chart we'll use.   Both versions are essential.  You probably are familiar with both artists but if you are not check them out, they made a lot of great records.  We will talk about them again...
