Practicing 101
Working your fingers and your ears:
Quality Quantity Quickly
When practicing it is best to start slowly, I recommend extra slow especially for the first three repetitions ("reps"). Gradually increase the speed. Practice with good Quality. This includes proper fingering and proper left hand technique. Give it your full attention. Increase the number of reps (Quantity) while retaining good Quality. While retaining the Quality increase the speed (Quickly).
Listen Listen Listen
It is also very important to be able to hear what you are trying to play, whenever possible have an audio (or video with audio) copy of the lick or exercise you are working on. Even better if you can hum it! Listen to it at least three times before you try to play it, then listen to it again frequently during your practice session.
