What we do in lessons.

This is from a text exchange with a new student (with playing experience) who had some good questions about what we do in lessons.  He was used to working off written assignments, which is a big plus.  Make sure we both know what is expected of you and me!

Here's my response:

"Backing tracks are the next best thing to playing with someone.   Music lives and breathes in the performance and the jam.   There are very few better methods for seeing how well the work we are doing is working for you in a practical way. There will be more as I dial in your specific skill set and your goals and needs.

Your job is to continue to jam, get familiar with the training regimen and observe closely things on video we will talk about in lesson and emails during the week.   Old school is often good school, but nowadays tech helps fill in gaps we used to have to deal with.

This will be fun!

In the jams (live and on backing tracks) you will see where you need to work.  That's one way we assess the work we are doing in lesson.   Glad to have you aboard and keep questions like this coming as you have them.   They are the right questions."

Keep the communication coming!  Err on the side of too many emails and "too much" communication (it probably won't be too much), I love to hear from students during the week who are doing the work and trying to make sense of it all so they can move forward!
